The author, a North Dakota native, is dean and professor of biology at the College of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati and adjunct curator of entomology at the Cincinnati Museum Center. His other research interests involve Charles Darwin, egyptology, tiger beetles and periodical cicadas. He is editor of American Entomologist. He is a past President of the Indiana Academy of Science and held the same position for the American Association of the Academies of Science. He will receive the IAS Distinguished Scholar Award in 2017.
